Paying attention

Guest post written by my buddy Royce Heath

I think there is a ADT Small house system that is a bit cheaper than some of the systems for larger homes. I am not completely sure, of course. I have not done as much research as I should. My friends have had the security system in their houses for a while now. They have told me all about it before, but honestly I did not pay all that much attention. I have such a bad habit of not listening when something is not super interesting to me. It definitely comes back and bites me in the butt sometimes. I think the last time I was caught not listening, it was actually when a friend was venting about a co-worker. I just stopped listening because I did not want to get stuck and bogged down with negative thoughts. She actually was talking about quitting and I just completely ignored her. I hate to admit that because how do you just not listen to someone venting about quitting his or her job. That is a pretty big deal. Same thing happened when they were talking about home security systems. Might not be as bad to not listen to, but I do sort of wish I had paid more attention.

The Couch Potato

The article written by Landon Gilbert

My husband is a sweet guy, but sometimes I feel like all he does is watch Direct TVWhen we were dating he took me to all sorts of fun places. We were always out and about, and he even took me skydiving one year for my birthday. I know things change when you get older, but I would love it if he would take me out to dinner and a movie, or dancing. It doesn’t have to be every night, but once in a while it would be nice. He would rather stay home and watch movies than be out on the town. He is very generous and always says I should go out with my friends, but I want to share these experiences with him. I haven’t tried having a serious talk with him about this yet, but I think I may have to. Hopefully he’ll make an effort when he knows how important it is to me.

Vacation home

Thanks to Wm Rowe

My husband and I recently bought a vacation home on the lake a couple hours from where we live. We wanted to make sure it had all the conveniences of our everyday home so when we went there for the weekend or even for a month or two in the summer we would still feel at home. We set up our internet through http://www.wildbluedeals.com/ so that my husband could still work from the lake house. That way we could stay longer each time and not have to worry about rushing home so he could get to work. Most of the time when we are there, I spend a lot of time reading out on the dock in the sun. I love to be outdoors, and the second story of the dock is the perfect place since we furnished it with nice lounge chairs to hang out on. There is a covered area that we put in a stereo system so we can have music when we entertain. And there is even an area that has a great grill. It is almost like an outdoor kitchen. I would absolutely love to retire here one day.

SATC

Thanks to Wm Rowe

I have been on a serious DVR kick lately. I’ve been too busy to watch much live TV, so I’ve been recording a ton of shows. I took a quick peek at my DVR the other day and I only had about 10% empty. I knew that if I didn’t start watching my recorded shows it would stop recording my usual shows. I sat down and watched an entire block of Sex and the City one Saturday, and it was glorious. I really miss that show. I kind of went into a period of mourning when it went off the air, and I’m so excited that the Style network has started to show them on constant repeat. The only problem is that I’ve wasted entirely too many Saturday afternoons watching it when I could have been accomplishing more important things around the house. That’s a small price to pay though for a few hours of watching one of the best shows in recent history. Check out the Style network on Direct TV to see if you agree it’s a pretty awesome show.
